Carter Verhaeghe's Overtime Heroics Lift Panthers Past Bruins
Florida Completes Comeback Victory in Boston
Verhaeghe's Goal Extends Panthers' Winning Streak to Five
BOSTON, MA - Carter Verhaeghe scored a dramatic overtime goal to give the Florida Panthers a thrilling 4-3 comeback victory over the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night at TD Garden.
The Bruins, who entered the game with the best record in the NHL, looked to be in control after taking a 3-1 lead into the third period. However, the Panthers rallied with two goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation, including a tying goal from Anton Lundell with just 1:09 remaining.
In overtime, Verhaeghe took a pass from Sam Reinhart and skated into the Bruins zone. He cut to the net and fired a shot that beat Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark between the legs. The goal sent the Panthers bench into a frenzy and gave Florida its fifth straight victory.
The Panthers, who are now 10-3-0 on the season, were led offensively by Verhaeghe's two goals. Aleksander Barkov and Matthew Tkachuk also scored for Florida.
The Bruins, who fell to 7-4-2 on the season, were led by Brad Marchand's two goals. David Pastrnak also scored for Boston.
The Panthers will return home to host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night, while the Bruins will travel to Toronto to face the Maple Leafs on Wednesday night.
